** Sophie ** for Victoria 4 by DAZ by wildaboutbirds Thank you for buying my Sophie V4 package! I hope you enjoy many beautiful renders with this little angel. :) If you have any questions or problems, please write me at wildaboutbirds1216@lycos.com and I will do my best to help. Installation: Unzip to your Poser folder. Where are the files? Sophie MOR and MAT poses: Pose\DAZ's Victoria 4\Sophie_V4 Sophie Dress: Figures\DAZ's Victoria 4 Clothing\Sophie Sophie Dress MAT poses: Pose\DAZ's Victoria 4\SophieDressMAT Loading Sophie: Load Victoria 4, in Figures/DAZ People Load Sophie's MOR pose, and one of the 3 MAT poses, standard, Summer, or Winter. Hair for V4 can be used, if proportions are changed to fit Sophie. Usually, a Scale of about 77%, plus an adjustment for her proportionately larger, child-sized head, will make it fit. Prop hair for Maddie works well too, if scaled to fit. Other clothing for V4 may be used, if it has the morphs that Sophie uses -- Thin, Young, and Bulk are necessary, and small amounts of Heavy and Voluptuous morphs are used as well. Some clothing will automatically match her morphs, but if they do not, read the Full Body morphs installed in Sophie V4 and copy the settings. This will not work well for all conforming clothing. Using the Dress: Load "SophieDress", located in DAZ's Victoria 4 Clothing. Conform it to Sophie, or to Amanda, my other child character for V4. For Sophie, change the clothing Scale to 77%. For Amanda, change the clothing Scale to 90% and the dial "fit Amanda" to 1.0. Use MAT poses for the dress, located in Pose \ DAZ's Victoria 4 \ SophieDressMAT. You can change textures, or make parts of the outfit transparent, to make a number of different clothing styles from the "Dress". Use the full-body morphs on the Dress to adjust the style of the hips, and the width of the front of the hip. Use the morphs on the Skirt to fit, pose and move it as you like. There is a morph that makes it fit more loosely, to fix any poke-through problem. The Skirt is also a hybrid dynamic cloth item, so you can simulate it in the Cloth Room if you like. See the tutorial below. Fitting the V4 Panty: Load the V4 Panty that comes with the V4 Basicwear set. Conform it to Sophie, then run the fit pose that is with the MAT and MOR poses, to make the panty fit Sophie. Increase Heavy or Bulk morphs to fix poke-through. Dynamic Dress MINI-TUTORIAL Load the figure and Dress as above. The next few steps can be done in the Pose room, or anywhere I suppose. At the very bottom of your Poser screen there is an animation slider, a little pointer that goes from 1 to 30. This means that there will be 30 frames by default, which will usually work fine. (Or use 60 or even 120 frames to give it even more time to settle properly.) Put the slider on frame 1, select the figure, go to the Figure Menu, and under Use Inverse Kinematics, un-check both legs. Go to the Window menu, choose Joint Editor, and click the Zero Figure button. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you zero the figure and turn off IK to make the clothing fit and simulate correctly. Move the frame slider on the bottom of the screen to frame 5, and load your pose. (Or use Frame 10 for your pose, if you want to move more gradually, or if you have problems with the cloth tearing.) You may also want to adjust the character's position to give enough distance from the ground or furniture -- leave just a little space between them so the cloth can fit in. Look carefully at frames 1 through 5 to make sure that body parts do not pass through the Skirt as they move to their posed locations. If they do, move them out of the way in frame 2 or 3 and they will go around the clothing to reach their final position by frame 5. Now click on the Cloth tab at the top of your screen to go to the Cloth Room. Click the button, "New Simulation." Check the following box: Cloth collision Now select the Skirt of the Sophie Dress. Click the Clothify button, and select the Skirt again. Click Clothify to OK your choice. Now click the button Collide Against: Click the Add/Remove button, then check all body parts and objects that you want to intersect with the dynamic clothing. Look at the pose, and check only the parts that you need. Set Collision Offset and Collision Depth to 0.2. You need to set these numbers for each object or figure that collides with the clothing. Dynamics Controls should not need to be changed, as they should load with the clothing prop. Now that everything is ready, RUN YOUR SIMULATION with the Calculate Simulation button, and sip a coffee or do some chores while it processes. The pose will be complete after only 5 frames, but the other frames will let the cloth settle and drape properly. When the simulation is done, you will find your ideal cloth somewhere between frames 5 and 30. Add other elements to your scene and render! You can change material settings either before or after the simulation, using the MAT poses in Poses > Mariah. Troubleshooting: If you have problems with the simulation, like the character pokes through or the cloth tears during the simulation, here are some ways you might fix it. If the cloth tears at the top of the skirt, where it attaches to the body, relaxing the constrained group may be necessary. Go into the cloth room and press the button Edit Constrained Group. You will see everything turn black except some little red dots. These dots are places where the cloth is constrained, or made to fit tightly, and relaxing this fit may help. A dialog box will appear, called Group Editor. Check "Hide Other Objects" in this box, and move the frame slider to Frame 1. Now, using Ctrl+click, draw a box around the red dots in the area where you have poke-through. This will un-select them, which will allow them to move more easily during the simulation. Now un-check Hide Other Objects and click in the corner of the Group Editor to close it. Re-run the simulation and see if that helps. If your simulation runs partway through then quits without warning, then the next time you try to run the simulation it will quit immediately. The only fix for this is to save your .pz3 scene file and close it (or quit Poser) then re-open the file. It should work then. If it does not, look carefully at each frame of your scene. There may be a place where there is too great a collision between character and cloth, and you may need to adjust the pose if Editing Constrained Group above does not fix it. One more Poser bug and workaround: If you run your simulation and save your scene, then reload it later, you may find that Poser has done something goofy! Your character may move from zero pose in Frame 1 to fully posed in Frame 5, but then somehow the character does some kind of impossible pretzel-yoga into 2 times the bend of the original pose, then to return to the normal pose by Frame 30. Here is how you fix this. On the bottom, right above the frame slider, is a numerical readout of your frames, "from 01 to 30" for instance. Select the second number, and change it from 30 to 5. This will delete all frames after 5. Click OK when Poser asks. Now change the number back from 5 to 30 again. Now all frames from 5 through 30 will be duplicates of Frame 5, and will be properly posed. Usually hair and cloth simulations that were already done will remain as they should, with no frames lost, so your problem is basically fixed! (Changes made after Frame 5 will have to be added in again, though, like expressions.)
